Drawn to the Light: Paintings from the Presidio

Drawn to Light: Paintings from the Presidio

This collection of new paintings grew out of countless walks through the Presidio, Crissy Field, Lobos Creek, and Golden Gate Park. Living near the Presidio, I return to its trails, overlooks, and wooded paths throughout the year. These walks have become an essential part of my creative practice—a time to slow down, observe, and reconnect with nature. Every visit offers something new as shifting fog and changing light transform familiar places into entirely different experiences.

The paintings begin with the memory of a place rather than a literal view. Back in the studio, those memories evolve through imagination and expressive color. Rich violets, luminous pinks, warm golds, and atmospheric blues create landscapes that capture not only the beauty of these places, but also the feeling of being there. My hope is that these paintings invite you to slow down, pay attention, and remember your own moments of connection with nature.

Whisper of Dusk, oil on canvas, 11” x 14”

One of the ideas that guided this series is simple: beauty is often much closer than we think. Sometimes all it takes is returning to a familiar place and noticing how the light has changed.

If you're in San Francisco, I hope you'll make a day of it. Take a walk through the Presidio before or after your gallery visit. Wander one of the trails, spend a few quiet moments by Crissy Marsh, and then stop by the gallery to see how those same landscapes have found their way into these paintings.

I'd love to see you at the reception!
